Less Electric Means More Living

Saving electricity is important if we want to conserve energy and save our planet. It is a first step in showing we care. Electrical consumption is huge, especially in developed countries. The best, and the easiest, thing everyone can do is cut back on their use of electricity.

Saving electricity is really a rather easy step in the direction of 'green living', you can begin immediately reducing your use of electrical power.

There are newer and more environmentally friendly sources of electricity that can be used, both saving money and the planet's natural resources. You can, in some places in the United States, use a wind turbine instead of coal-generated electricity from the grid, or you can use a mixture of your own wind power combined with the electricity from your local electric company. This really simplifies matters and lets you be a hip and informed consumer that puts into practice his or her awareness of the impeding future energy crisis. Another form of energy production that is very ecologically sound is the using of solar panels to generate energy to fuel your home appliances. The installment of solar panels is applied successfully to homes and businesses, and anyone who wants can invest in solar panel units for their own home, thereby saving dollars and helping the population now and populations of the future meet the challenges of the energy crisis.

Reducing electrical use around your home is a good habit to acquire, once you get into the habit of this, you will want to be more careful what you are using everywhere you go. Easy ways to cut usage go beyond lowering the thermostat or turning off the lights when you leave the room. You can choose to practice using less when you are eating, too, Cutting the use of electricity in the kitchen is sometimes easy to overlook. But, those appliances are usually electric and you can learn to prepare many of your foods and beverages by using less power or even no power.

It may be feasible to get a gas range, as gas is often lower in cost. Although gas is a fossil fuel, you'll still cause less pollution by using a gas range than by using an electric range where the electricity came from coal. You can use the gas range to boil coffee in a percolator or with a strainer, instead of your automatic pot, bake, roast, broil, grill and so on. Increase the utensils that are not electrically powered in your kitchen drawers: slicers, mashers, whisks, egg beaters and more can all be purchased in forms that require no power whatsoever. You can also learn to eat more chilled dishes for the main course, leaving maybe only one meal a day to be the hot meal.

Other interesting energy sources to look into are geothermal sources which use heat from underground hot spots and convert it into usable forms for our use, or nuclear fusion which is supposed to have unlimited resources for production from either lithium (3 billion years) or deuterium (150 billion years). Being prepared to use a variety of energy sources helps reduce the whole problem of energy shortage from becoming a major catastrophe.
