Energy Saving Lightbulbs - A Fast, and Easy Way to Save Energy

by Ross Young
(Canada)

One fast easy way I discovered to save energy in my home was to replace most of its lightbulbs with energy efficient bulbs, which use about a quarter as much energy as the regular ones. First, I watched for the energy efficient bulbs to go on sale. I also bought a store brand. I didn't replace every single bulb in my home, just the ones that got the most use - kitchen, back porch, dining room etc. - but not the basement light or other lights that are rarely on. I saved all the bulbs I replaced so I'll never have to buy a regular incandescent light bulb again.
One thing I noticed right away was how much brighter the energy efficient fluorescent bulbs are. My kitchen looks like it's been remodeled! Take the claims on the light bulb boxes with a grain of salt, I didn't notice savings equal to the claims, but I did see my energy use did go down a noticeable amount, and my home is brighter and more cheerful intoo the bargain.
