Energy saving capacitors

by Claudia
(Essex MD U.S.A.)

Thank you for you article on "Energy Saving Capacitors. Perfect timing - we were about to buy one!

My husband and I attended a meeting where there was a very nice presentation of these devices, capacitors, and how they would save us 15% off out total electric bill.

As you said, it is too good to be true and your article explained how and why, in a very well written fashion. It made common sense.

Thank you again,
Claudia

Heat pump inductive load
by: Bill H

I was thinking of installing one of these energy saving capacitors, however there is no guarantee of savings. I have the typical household electric appliances, washer, dryer, frig, ceiling fans, dehumidifier and a heat pump. The heat pump runs winter and summer. All of these appliances are approximately two years old. My question is, could I expect to realize any savings as I am reading that most new appliances already have a energy savings capacitor installed in them? Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Swimming Pool Pump
by: Ed

What about if you have a swimming pool? In the hot summer, these pumps have to run 10-12 hours per day and use quite a bit of electricity. I suspect that these pumps are not very energy efficient and that this capacitor system might actually work well on homes with swimming pools. I would be interested in your thoughts on this.

Glad you found us before you bought
by: Robin from Green Energy Efficient Homes

Hi Claudia, I'm glad you found my article on these devices before you put a lot of money down on something that might not actually ever pay for itself.

People are always looking for a quick fix, and many people are attracted to conspiracy theories. These so called energy saving capacitors are often marketed as something the utility companies don't want you to know about. The fact is that most utilities are actively trying to get people to conserve energy, not use more, so the conspiracy theory doesn't make sense at all. And there really is no quick fix, other than the very obvious one: turn things off, upgrade to more efficient equipment, live a simpler life. We can't have our cake and eat it too!
