Dry your towels on a line first

by Richard Cairns

Towels dried on a line get stiff and prickly - but you can soften them with a quick run in the dryer afterward. Save energy by drying on the line first.

My wife always complains when I hang towels out to dry. They get stiff and are prickly to use after. So I compromise. I put them out on the clothesline and then when they're almost dry I put them in the dryer to fluff them.

They get dry from the sun and fluffy from the dryer. My wife's happy because they're soft. I'm happy because they got soft and dry without wasting too much dryer time.

Not something that's likely to save the planet but it just bugs me to run a dryer when there's a perfectly good sun shining!

Unbelievable

I can't believe you would use power and energy to dry towels, clothes or anything when the sun will do it for you.

The dryer is for winter when it's too cold damp and wet to dry outside. Turn it off when its warm or better still get rid of it completely... now that's saving energy!!

Or just get used to stiff towels
by: Jeff Hlinka

You do get used to stiff towels after a while. I lived without a dryer for two years - just an old wringer washer in the basement, and an umbrella dryer line in the back yard. Sure, the towels weren't as soft as in the Downy ads, but if you're on a shoestring budget you make sacrifices.

Your tip is a good compromise though.
